Western conceptions of person-hood are in conflict with the practices of western states. Inalienable human rights are revealed to be inextricably tied to citizenship. The words of Europe’s far right are an echo, a warning, that something may be wrong with the foundations.

The work appropriates quotes from Geert Wilders (leader of the Dutch far-right political party PVV), replacing national, ethnic and cultural designations with the term “people” to probe unresolved contradictions concerning citizenship and to play with what is said and unsaid in current discourses that continually construct its meaning.
