Made in response to the Contributive Economies theme of the Research Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, Caught in the Milieu draws on the work of Philosopher Bernard Stiegler. Taking the narrative structure of a joke as a form, it tells the story of an artist and his innocent production as they become enmeshed within the capitalist logic of internet technologies. In becoming their digital selves, they must negotiate the prerogatives of autonomous creative production when faced with the seductive mechanics of social media.
